Learning Moments

The list of learning moments on this project is long and valuable. My learning language involves a lot of trial and error and a lot of mistakes. It's just how my brain works and I know I'm not alone here. It's tough with a project like this because those mistakes can cost a lot of time and money and they can greatly effect the workflow and morale of a team working so hard toward a common goal. My husband Mike has a motto at work that has been helping me through the inevitable ups and downs of construction. Win or learn. Winning on this project looks like loving the paint colors we picked out, kitchen countertops and lower custom cabinets turning out just right, being able to recycle old materials and make them pop like new with a fresh coat of paint. Learning has looked like these cracked countertops on the downstairs bathroom vanity. They were set to be installed on day 6 of the countdown to our Fourth of July deadline. When we opened them up we realized the sinks had not been glued to them and so the countertops cracked in transit. Sooooo now we're scrambling to find a solution so our friends can have a sink to use this weekend. It's not fun and it's not easy. But the good news is there is a lot of learning going on. So today's learning moment for me is, open your stuff. I ordered this vanity from Wayfair in December, I should have opened it to make sure it was in good condition and then boxed it back up for the later install. I would have seen the cracks and been able to plan for it. The same thing happened with the dishwasher so I feel this new approach is tested. A little bit of a plug here, when I emailed my Wayfair rep about the vanity at midnight on Sunday, I had a full refund in my inbox by Monday morning. I cannot say enough about their customer service, and Justin in particular who has been so helpful on this journey. Creating a business account with Wayfair in the beginning of this endeavor was a definite win.
