A Race To The Fourth

Since our original deadline for this project was President's Day, pause for ridiculousness, I purchased almost all of the furnishings back in December 2020. So when we are ready to install next week we will definitely be ready. Have box cutter, will decorate!

It's amazing what a deadline can do. With winter weather, labor shortages, and me placing incorrect material orders (that's a whole other post) we have had to take a real "It is what it is" approach to completing Bear's Den. But as the days got longer and the walls got whiter I asked the team if they could make my dreams come true and push hard so we could ALL enjoy some cold ones in the new place for the Fourth of July. They said yes and have been making miracles happen ever since. Here's where we are so far in our relay race to the fourth, get your koozies ready!

Our floooring crew is a father son team who travel all over the US making magic happen. When "dad" told me "the more floor you put in, the better it looks" he wasn't kidding. The prep is the real bitch here, like painting. Once that is done it moves quickly. Because of the crunch, our brilliant contractor Dawn of Mountain Living suggested we start with the bathrooms and the kitchen so that appliances and vanities could be installed while the flooring is completed in the rest of the unit. Josh, "son", said he normally wouldn't work that way but seems pleased with how it's working out. With the snow and considering this is a part time rental, the team recommended Coretec vinyl flooring and I am blown away that vinyl could look this good. If feels good knowing it can take the wear and tear of mountain life.

The hearth stone has been replaced, remember it was all cracked, and the pellet stove is being installed as we speak. After the 4th, the team from A Better Fireplace will come back and apply a cleaning solution to the stone to spruce it up a bit. Patrick from Mountain Living, the Michelangelo of house painters, sanded and stained these beams to perfection. We chose a light natural stain to let their inner beauty shine through.

Here is my "let's go for it and see what happens" design moment in Bear's Den. This is in the loft so I thought something fun and graphic would work well for the space considering it's made for kids with bunk beds and bean bags. I love the way it turned out. For the master and guest bath I did white grout to create a more peaceful vibe.

The sink and countertops being installed this week was a real full circle moment as the sink was the first item I purchased for the project. Dawn and Patrick of Mountain Living, who I've lovingly nicknamed the Chip and Jo of Mammoth, suggested this grey for the cabinets and I am obsessed with it. I love the way it compliments the greys in the Bertoli slab from Arizona Tile. We also painted all the interior doors with it, can't wait to see them hung with the matte black hardware we chose.

There is lots more to do but I am confident we can do it. So is Bear, our constant companion in this endeavor.
