Welcome to the beautiful before of Bear’s Den, a 2000 square foot townhome we purchased in Mammoth Lakes, California late 2020. Bear’s Den is part passion project, part investment property. It will serve as a family vacation home for us and a mountain retreat for any of you, as it will be listed for short-term rental (hopefully) by mid-April 2021.
Mammoth is a huge part of our lives and has been well, forever. My husband Mike and I grew up coming here with our families and we’ve continued that tradition with our kids now. Mike’s parents have a place here and we spent a lot of 2020 taking advantage of it. That’s when we learned the neighbor next door was thinking of selling his unit.
The Lakes Basin Path this last summer. This road and walking path lead to Lake Mary, Horseshoe Lake and the Mammoth Lakes Pack outfit.
Mike’s Dad made the introduction and after a few weeks of negotiating, we had a deal. The unit was in bad shape but we could see the potential. We committed to a full renovation. Fun fact: to renovate is to renew; to revamp something to make it look new again. I struggled between calling it a renovation, a remodel, or a refurbish, ‘cause yeah I’m a nerd.
“To renovate is to renew; to revamp something to make it look new again.”
A view of Chair 22 from the loft. It’s one of Mike’s favorite runs so we consider it a good sign you can see it from Bear’s Den.
